Replacement power units

Central vacuum replacement and upgrades

Most central vacuum pipe lasts for the life of the house. When the power unit wears out, you can usually replace just the unit and keep the pipe and inlets.

Signs it may be time to replace the unit

  • The motor is loud, smells hot or keeps shutting off
  • Suction stays weak after the bag, filter and pipe have been checked
  • Parts for the old unit are no longer available
  • Repeated repairs on an older unit
  • You want quieter operation or better filtration

What we check before recommending a new unit

We test the existing pipe and inlets for leaks and blockages, confirm the low-voltage wiring works, and look at where the unit is mounted and how it vents. If the pipe is sound, a new Beam or CycloVac power unit can usually connect with standard fittings.

If the old unit used a different mounting bracket or inlet size, we include the adapter parts in your quote. If your system is only a few years old, a repair may make more sense, and we will tell you that. See repair and service.

Choosing the replacement

Compare 120 V models and 240 V power units on our Systems page, with published airwatts, water lift and airflow from the manufacturers. If you are unsure, the system selector gives a starting point and we confirm it on site. If the power unit needs a new dedicated circuit or outlet, that work must be done by a licensed electrician and is not included in our price. This applies to 120 V and 240 V units.

FAQ

Common questions

Can existing central-vac piping be reused?

Usually, yes. We test it for leaks and blockages first. Pipe in good condition can work with a modern Beam or CycloVac unit.

Do I need to replace my hose too?

Not always. If your hose and powerhead work with the new unit, you can keep them. We check compatibility, especially for electric powerheads.

How long does a central vacuum power unit last?

It depends on use, maintenance and the motor. Warranty terms are a good guide: the manufacturers list motor warranties of 5 to 15 years on the units we sell.
